A new documentary film on the Congo’s history and wars will be released on June 30th, 2011, the 51st anniversary of the Congo’s independence from Belgium.

Crisis in the Congo: Uncovering the Truth explores the role that the U.S. and its strongest African allies have played in Congo’s ongoing wars, the lack of media attention to the largest humanitarian emergency in the world, and the relationship between citizens and consumers of electronic gadgets in the West and the pillaging of Congo’s natural mineral wealth.

Featuring interviews with Adam Hochschild (author of King Leopold’s Ghost), Anneke Van Woundenberg (Human Rights Watch researcher), Howard W. French (former New York Times reporter), and others, Crisis in the Congo builds on recent documentaries on the Congo, including Blood in the Mobile, The Congo Connection, and Ross Kemp: Extreme World – Congo.
