As CADS begins preparing for field projects in Cameroon and an upcoming workshop in Kigali, we have been reviewing the situation in the eastern Congo and having a look through the Monde Diplomatique’s collection of map graphics. The Congo is indeed blessed with an abundance of natural resources, and the map below doesn’t even depict agricultural productivity. It is a shame that more of the country’s wealth were not accessible to the millions of small scale agriculturalists or small businesses striving to grow. Part of CADS’ work in the Ruzizi Valley and elsewhere hopes to increase the value of the eastern Congo agricultural outputs from the bottom up.
The second map below depicts a utopian vision of Africa’s energy future, which is also focused on the Congo’s Inga dam. Whatever Africa’s future holds, Congo’s citizens will be playing a key role in the continent’s success.
